When I was in the restaurant business i was always afraid to try something new like putting on a new food item on the menu or take an item off the menu. What will the customer say? I was so afraid because i was taught if something works don’t touch it. The problem with that is there will never be room to improve.

I was afraid of change, i was to comfortable. So in order for me to embrace change to the point where now i thrive for change, a mental shift had to happen or at least a different perspective. I called Stephan one day and told him how i wanted to try something new at the restaurant but i was afraid to.

He replied, go for it, its impossible to fail as long as you have feedback.” There Is No Failure Only Feedback”. He said put out some comment cards and mingle with your customers and ask them what they thought about whatever change i you do. With the feedback I got in return from my customers, actually helped me increase my business 300%. This is why businesses do surveys, makes sense right.

So lets say i sell a 100 orders of the most popular chicken dish on the menu and i decide to bring in a new chicken dish to test it out because i really liked the taste of it.

The thing is just because i like it doesn’t mean the majority of my customers would agree. Right? My first indication will obviously be how many i sell this month. If its more than 100 orders, that would tell me its a keeper, if its 20 orders then it would be a dog and take it off the feature page. But more importantly than anything, would be to read the comment cards and simply ask my patrons what they’re thoughts are.

Thats all I need is to do is ask maybe 20-30 customers and i got all i needed to know. So based on the feedback of my customers i can’t fail ever! Now i can test whatever i want and always be excited to do so without fear. For me that statement from Stephan was a life changer so much so that i decided to sell my restaurant without knowing what i would do next. Most people wouldn’t do that because they’re to comfortable. Life is more interesting and exciting when there is change, I love it.
